“I’m Lovin’ It”: Greasy burger hits the spot during pandemic

At some point, especially during this pandemic, we all have that certain guilty craving for a cheeseburger and some fries. The crispy, golden coating of that perfect chicken nugget you pull out of the McDonald’s paper bag, especially for me, is a craving I want to eat up.

I have been going to this fast food restaurant since I was a kid. The McDonald’s menu has developed over the years astronomically. The company has gotten more creative over the years introducing seasonal items.

For example, they have their St. Patrick’s Day shake known as the Shamrock Shake. It has a delicious minty flavor with a vibrant green color. It is a limited time only item and is very popular. I find myself at McDonald’s more often around this time for this popular item.

Since this quarantine has begun, I have had more time to give my full attention and interest to my favorite fast food drive through. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, you name it and they have it. It is nice to wake up, be able to hop in the car, and grab and go. I can depend on them for a yummy breakfast burrito or a warm Egg McMuffin. Their all-day breakfast menu is genius.

Although they have delightful food items that interest my taste buds, their service is not always the best. Late night trips to McDonald’s for a nice ice cream cone often result in “Our ice cream machine is down,” which everyone can infer is probably false.

Sometimes the employees have not even said a word to me, or my order has gotten messed up multiple times. Overall, I think the service could be better, along with putting forth more effort into their night staff crew.

I think McDonald’s fries are all around my favorite fries from any fast food restaurant. Compared to Wendy’s, or Culver’s, McDonald’s fries are perfectly salted and cooked just right. I find Wendy’s and Culver’s fries to be barely salted and overall the fries still have too much potato skin on them.

McDonald’s changed their chicken for their chicken items on the menu a few years ago, and I think that was their best move yet. The outer breading is always crispy and golden. The chicken tastes healthier and the texture has improved.

Overall, I would give this drive-through restaurant three out of five stars. Based on their food quality, it is right down my alley of food choice. They have places of improvement that they could work on, but hey, “I’m Lovin’ It.”
