A concert’s effect reaches far more than just being a live performance: it fuses energetic music and culture while transforming people through camaraderie in the crowd. Students popped up at multiple concerts this summer, including artists such as Zach Bryan, Jhene Aiko and Metro Boomin.
Live concerts permit different forms of artistic expression, providing an outlet for artists to create relationships with each audience. Additionally, concerts create economic activity in the local communities by attracting tourists who spend money locally.
Alexis Ronstadt from Music Strive wrote that most ensembles can expect to make $500 to $5,000 per gig.
“A place where people can come together over music offers a sense of community and a place to belong,” junior Tabatha Stockton said. “Live concerts act as a place for people to come together and share experiences with friends.”
“Sometimes when you are down, you just need one thing to pick back up,” junior Joseph Charles said. “The energy of Zach Bryan was uplifting, spreading throughout the entire crowd. Everything was loud and engaging during Revival.”
According to T-Mobile Center (t-mobilecenter.com), the concert brought about 20,000 fans together at Zach Bryan’s Kansas City concert in 2023.
“Everyone in the audience being there for Zach Bryan’s music leads to communal bonding despite all the different backgrounds,” junior Caleigh Masters said.
Aside from personal consumption, concerts play a role in the local and international economy. According to celebritytalent.com, it costs around $2,500,000-$6 million to book Zach Bryan. In turn, cities and tours are promoted by these large-scale music festivals and other related events.
“Jhene was a great experience and the energy was amazing,” senior Lola Knauf said. “There was a very feminine environment, I would describe as healing to be around.”
The energy created during concerts and other musical performances arises from interactive performers, audiences and physical environments. Concert atmospheres and the dynamics of live performances leave audiences with an experience. “Zach Bryan’s music resonates with a profound simplicity, offering a lyrical exploration of the human experience,” Masters said.
