Griffin Bloemker interview: With the work put in during practices, sophomore Griffin Bloemker has built up his ability to accelerate to first at the start of his race. “The training is the hard part, but the races make it worth it,” Bloemker said. “If you work and train hard enough, then races will be more satisfying and fun.”

Fired Up: Cross Country team starts the season off strong with their first meet

Leaving it all on the field, freshman James Moloney dashed past other high school students in his race. Moloney put in the work during his freshman season as he uses his mental strength to push past physical exhaustion. “I was very tired,” Moloney said. “But I like that I get to compete against new faces in different races.”

Giving it her all while racing to the finish line, senior Kristina Erskine states that she is driven by her competitive spirit until the end of the race. “Even though I wanted the race to end, I had a lot of determination to get ahead of the girl in front of me,” Erskine said. Erskine expressed how she hopes for senior through freshman collaboration in leading the program to a successful season. “I feel like our overall team this season has very good potential with four new freshman girls and two other very experienced seniors. This season will give us a great opportunity to grow and do well at regionals,” Erskine said.

Running with confidence, freshman Laney Murtha finished second in her first high school 2-mile race. “I was feeling confident and excited to finish the race, because I knew I was doing good,” Murtha said. “I was really proud of myself, and really happy for my team.”

Leading the team to success, Senior Ella Aquino finished second in the girls varsity 5k race. Ella was feeling great as she crossed the finish line. “I was feeling a lot of happiness, because I've gotten third the past two years. Even though I got second, I ran a really good time, and I was really proud of it,” Aquino said. She is very optimistic about the new freshman on the team. “The freshman girls are really settling into the team, and they bring a lot of joy.”
