As the basketball season comes to an end, junior Kirston Verhulst thanks her coaches and team for all the hard work they have put in this year. Verhulst has been part of the state winning team since she was a freshman and is honored to be a part of the legacy. “The coaches care so much about each of the players,” Verhulst said. “Having a coaching staff that backs us up for everything we do makes us more comfortable.”

Celebrating his victory at state, senior Baker North walks around the gym to the song “Stand up for the Champions.” North won 4A wrestling state in the 285-pound weight class on February 24, and is leaving his mark on the wrestling program by being the only stag wrestler who has won state in the past five years. “Im trying to carry on the tradition that Bishop Miege has success in every aspect of their sports,” North said. I am trying to bring that to wrestling and give more light to wrestling in Kansas City.”

Looking back on the year, head girls basketball coach Mike Allen celebrates the teams’ incredible victories this year during the school assembly. In Allen’s first year coaching he went 22-3 and took the team all the way to the state championship. They have had the reigning title of 4A state champs since 2019, excluding 2020 when the tournament was canceled.

Tesmer is the only starting freshman on varsity this year and has high hopes for future seasons. “Hopefully, we make it to state next year,” Tesmer said. “ That is our main goal above all else.”

Taking the lead, senior Francis Cressey takes on the part as the main character in “The Man Who Came To Dinner.” The play is a comedy by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart that takes the audience through a fun-filled story. “It was kind of surreal because I still don’t think it’s hit me yet that I am a senior,” Cressey said. “I love how close everyone is with each other and just how connected it all feels.”
