Celebrating The Holidays: Students enjoy Christmas traditions at Miege

Serving the community, freshman Samantha Mohlman enjoys her first Don Bosco wrapping party. Students took part in wrapping presents and putting them under the Christmas trees for their herds. “It makes me feel very good knowing that I can help people in need,” Mohlman said. “I am very grateful that I am in a position where I can help people and make a few people's Christmas a little better this year.”

Senior Bella Franco helps decorate the Martina herd Christmas tree during the annual “Red Bag” event on Dec.5. During Red Bag, students adopt families from the Don Bosco Center and help provide essential items to families in need. “‘Red Bag’ gets all the community involved, and really makes us think more about what Christmas is really about,” Franco said. “This tradition is my favorite part , it has such deep meaning.”

Keeping the spirit up, senior Emilia Buck grooves during the seventh and eighth-grade mixer. “I think all of us having fun helped the seventh and eighth graders,” Buck said. “We kept our energy at its best, so their energy would be high, and they would have a great time.”

Senior Kirston Verhulst leads the girls volleyball team through the gym to celebrate their third consecutive state championship win. “I was a little bit nervous walking around the gym because there were a lot of people in there, but it was nice to see the support from everyone after we won,” Verhulst said. Verhulst has focused on leading the team by example, working hard to show the underclassmen how the team needs to play in order to win. “It was a pretty intense game, but our level of competitiveness really showed.”

Griffin Bloemker interview: With the work put in during practices, sophomore Griffin Bloemker has built up his ability to accelerate to first at the start of his race. “The training is the hard part, but the races make it worth it,” Bloemker said. “If you work and train hard enough, then races will be more satisfying and fun.”

Hello! My name is Evan Ulmer and this will be my second year on the Miegian Staff as a senior! I am very excited to be our team’s Photo Editor as I have always had a strong passion for photography! I had such a blast on the photography staff last year, that I knew returning I wanted to take on an editor position.
