A witness talk from senior Joseph Charles kicked off the first Summit Night of the 2025/26 school year.
Charles, who regularly attends Summit Nights, felt a calling from the Holy Spirit to share his testimony and recollection of his battle with cancer as a child and how it affects his health in the present.
“The day before (the event) I really heard God speak to me and through the Holy Spirit,” Charles said.
His witness focused on how God has influenced his spiritual journey, while revealing struggles with his cardio-vascular health. Through his faith, he learned how to face these struggles.
Charles remembered a time during a recent visit Camp Tekawitha, a Catholic summer camp in Williamsburg, KS, when the Holy Spirit reached out saying, “Trust in Me and do not be afraid.” This changed his life and gave him hope.
Students and teachers considered his speech inspirational. Many thought that Charles was brave to speak in front of such a large group.
“I’m really proud of him for sharing his story,” Calvert said
“I thought it was really powerful,” senior Adam Marsh said. “Not a lot of people have found that moving experience yet, and that’s something they’re still looking for.”
Summit Nights began in the fall of 2023 and continue to affect the prayer lives of students and faculty.
According to Calvert, Summit Nights continue to grow, allowing attendees to get excited to come see the Lord, and support their friends. They are a way for students to connect to God on campus.
“I always look forward to seeing new faces,” Calvert said.
