Stag Strut, the annual school fundraiser, exceeded its fundraising goal while introducing new events.
Since 1989, Stat Strut has asked students to walk the track in support of fundraising for the school. This year, the event raised approximately $66,000, which is used to keep overall tuition down.
“I hope students walk away knowing the actual impact that they make, education is an expensive endeavor, and tuition doesn’t cover everything,” Alex Keith, dean of students, said.
Updates to this year’s festivities included the introduction of the “red carpet” assembly, held in the gym prior to the walk. Seniors, who traditionally wear costumes, were given the chance to show off their styles and have a special moment in front of the student body. Costumes ranged from “the Founding Fathers” to characters from the Lorax.
“(Raising funds for the school) represents how we can come together,” junior Alex McBride said. “It shows that even through ups and downs, we always come together as a community.”
The costume contest was a crowd favorite, and the winners, including “founding father” senior Laina Vossen, earned big cheers from their classmates.
“Winning the competition was super exciting,” Vossen said. “I felt like all our hard work paid off.”
The assembly also included teacher and student-led games. Crowds practicing their chants for the upcoming football game that night added a festive spirit to the day.
“Everyone is grateful for all the effort that they put into the day, and knowing that they did something great for their community,” Keith said.
