To highlight the current issue about immigration in a meaningful and faith-filled way, the Latino Association Club held a Rosary prayer for members of the Miege community at the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto before school on Monday, April 20.
According to LAC mentor Jennifer Dessert, the event’s focus was to pray as a community. The idea for the Rosary came from a shared concern among club members about the challenges immigrants face in the United States.
Members of the LAC worked together to bring the event to life and support in a way that reflected their faith.
“Many people in the club were concerned about some of the situations that immigrants in the United States were facing, and they wanted to do something and yet keep it aligned with their Catholic faith,” Dessert said. “And so we came up with the idea of having a rosary to bring attention to the issue, and then to pray.”
Cinthya Lazo Rios, the club’s president, played a key role in organizing and planning the gathering. Reflecting on the experience, she added that she hoped the event would show support and unity within the community.
“It started very peacefully, and then as we progressed with the rosary, I felt more emotional as I thought of my mother and my family,” Lazo Rios said.
Club member Miguel De Santos was impressed with the turnout and expressed gratitude to those who gathered.
“We saw a lot of admin, teachers, students, just everyone from every single part of the building came out to support immigrants,” De Santos said. “And I think that’s a strong message that we want to show to everybody, show that everyone’s welcome.”
